Follow the steps below to get your DJI Spark airborne as quickly and safely as possible.

Clicking on a link within a step takes you directly to the original source document.

STEP 0

Buy yourself a DJI Spark from a trusted vendor at the best possible price. The Fly More Combo that includes 2 additional batteries, fast charging hub, prop guards and extra props is the best deal. Don’t forget the SD card to capture all that great footage.

STEP 1   [strongly recommended]

Get DJI Care Refresh to protect your investment. For a small deductible your aircraft will be replaced by DJI – even if the damage is entirely pilot error. You can even get DJI Care outside the 48 hour activation window by submitting a verification video. It’s great piece of mind because everybody crashes… eventually.

STEP 2   [required]

Register with the FAA as a hobbyist drone pilot under Section 336. Affix the assigned number on a sticker inside the battery compartment. Cost is $5 for a 3 year term.

STEP 3

Read the user manuals for the Spark and the DJI Go App (Pilot’s Handbook)

STEP 4

Get a protective carrying case for your aircraft before you start hauling it around. It will keep all your gear organized and protected.

STEP 5

Get the must-have accessories and the essential apps you will need to make flying more enjoyable.

STEP 6

Understand and follow the drone regulations for safe and legal flights.

STEP 7

Study the Spark Video Library at the DJI website. Watch the Spark Tutorials and Quick Tips playlists on DJI’s official YouTube channel.

STEP 8

Join SparkPilots Forum to share useful information and inspiring video footage.

STEP 9

Read Learn How to Fly. And then practice, practice, practice

STEP 10

Get a second drone (and maybe even a third). The Mavic Pro is a Spark on steroids. The Tello is a pocket-sized Spark for indoors and quick fun. These three cover all the bases!
